While I had one baby at my side and other children within the cradle would work 12 hour shifts grinding floors and cutting off wallpaper. Ha! It was all falling in place, yet there was still a long way to go. It would take money, effort, and of course my favourite shopping experience for furniture to decorate this home. To stay on budget I began going to estate sales along with my three sons to find jewels in the rough. Our routine was to walk around garage sales and auctions on the weekend as well as purchase various of pieces old and newly created. My work days were spent on the drive either painting or sanding. The furniture I found looked like... this is the moment my love for restoring furniture was born. After our home was fully furnished, I still couldn't give up! I rented a booth on the local market, and also sold items there. Then I bought more that I had no idea what to do with and had outgrown the space. I started having open houses in my home that saw more than 1 000 visitors would come through in a single weekend and could purchase anything they wanted on the ground floor. Growing Days is the result of all this. The business wasn't just flourishing, but I was also growing our family of four. The balance was between starting a new business and becoming a mother. Growing Days fit perfectly. Nora was born in 2013 as our 4th baby. This was an excellent direction for my business, however, I needed a vacation. I decided to put off building my old furniture and be at home with the children. It was the right time. It wasn't until a couple of months that the phones started to ring. A lot of people contacted me seeking advice regarding home improvements and decor. These people had mostly visited my house at the open houses for furniture. In the course of my work I added new clients to my list each day. However, it didn't take long before I had many clients and operated a profitable home improvement business. If you had told me that my business would be the basis for a DIY Network show, I might have laughed. If I think back, it makes me laugh.
